What is New Roots?

So, you’ve been hearing this program called “New Roots” tossed around Nashville or social media and you decided to do a quick google or Instagram search, and it brought you here…Welcome!
Thank you for taking the time to come check us out. That means a lot, and since your time is precious, here is the TLDR version:
WHO IS NEW ROOTS FOR?
New roots is for female developing artists who are new to Nashville or who are CONSIDERING moving to Nashville to pursue their passion of making music and are ready to take charge of their career.
WHAT IS IT?
Two part question!
New Roots is a 3-day, 4 night weekend experience where you get to learn the ropes of the music industry….
Q&A with industry professionals (think A&R people, PR people, business coaches, songwriters, managers, and more!)
Record in a historic studio on Music Row with a Grammy winning producer (don’t worry, they are super cool and will make you feel comfortable!)
Co-write with your fellow artists and learn from guest pro songwriters
A “Soul Styling” session with a celebrity stylist to help enhance YOUR image and what suits YOUR beautiful, authentic self - no one else’s!
A Photoshoot with a talented, celebrity photographer so you can leave with beautiful new shots for your website/socials/family album/etc
Perform in a traditional Nashville style writers round alongside your fellow New Roots artists.
And, a community of empowered, supportive female identifying artists who are committed to creating the life and career that they want. We are a community that believes in growing TOGETHER not against each other so we can see more women represented in all areas of the music industry.

New Roots was created by yours truly, Sheridan Gates, and my wonderful business partner, Mark Thress. When the pandemic hit and we were stuck at home, Mark and I started chatting about what we wished we had when we first moved to Nashville. What would have made our experience a little less scary, less daunting, less alone? That’s when we realized we both felt strongly about needing a soft place for artists to land when they come to Nashville to pursue a career that is so vulnerable.
The vulnerability and authenticity of artists is what sadly seems to be the first to go when they come to a town where they are surrounded by other talent. New Roots is here to bring out the confidence and the beautifully unique voice that is inside each of us because There. Is. Room. For. Everyone. In. the. Music. Industry. Period. We each get to have our own lane, so rather than compete with one another, why not encourage and lift each other up!? That is the true heart and soul behind New Roots. The world needs your stories and if you feel called to share those stories in the form of a song, we would love to welcome you to Nashville and celebrate you.
